Spain - What can you expect

Tapas and happy people. Spain offers 6 different climate zones. Hard to believe. Atlantic, oceanic-continental (in the center of the peninsula), continental Mediterranean, Mediterranean, subtropical (Canary Islands) and mountain climate. So there is something for everyone. Between 14:00-18:00 is siesta time. There you can eat insanely well in the different Tapa-Bars. But there is no dinner before 20:00 o'clock. 🙂

Average Costs

Transportation - The litre of diesel cost on average 1.10 EUR (period January-May 2020). For comparison, the average price of diesel in the world was 1.01 EUR. A litre of gas cost 1.19 EUR in the same period. Also in comparison the average price in the world was 1.11 EUR.

Campgrounds - Can't say anything about that. We've always been free. Surely the following link can provide more information for those who like to go to campgrounds.

Food - Big Mac Index = 4.44 USD 1 liter of milk costs on average 0.77 EUR 12 eggs cost on average 1.59 EUR 1.5 liters of water cost on average 0.55 EUR

Suggestion daily budget – Daily budget proposal – 30-50 EUR (Note: This is a budget proposal that assumes that you are as free as possible to spend the night, eat out a little, cook most of your meals yourself and that your vehicle is not the big fuel guzzler. With the budget tips below you can reduce this number at any time. However, if you want to stay in more demanding accommodation or eat out more often, you can expect this amount to be much higher).

TIps for first visit

1. Prepare your food – No problem – cooking by yourself is usually always cheaper. But not in Spain. Siesta time is good eating time. For 4-5 euros one buys a glass of wine or a beer and gets a Tapa. This pleasure is especially widespread in Andalusia and the Tapas are sumptuous. Thus, for 15-20 euros, one can not only have good wine but also really fill up with food. Not bad we mean.

2. Saving while driving – Every city has its own offers. To list them all here would go beyond the scope of this site, so just search the web for City Pass and the destination city – done.

3. Check where de locals eat – That’s a really exciting tip. When you walk past a restaurant, look at which guests are in it. Are mostly locals at dinner – go in immediately. These kitchens offer the best of Spanish cuisine.

Do’s and don’ts

What is most difficult for the Europeans – those north of the Pyrenees mountain range – is that the Spanish are never on time. Why should I? There is mañana (morning). So do not be surprised if a shop, restaurant or appointment does not open / is not there at the agreed time. That’s what I like about Spain. Pleasure and joy of life.

And again for those who are slow to grasp the concept. Before 20:00 – rather not before 20:30 – you don’t have to try to have dinner in a restaurant. So don’t get abusive and curse either.

What one should avoid as a tourist is to slip into a restaurant or into the city with bathing clothes. That is disrespectful and also not a nice picture to look at the pale belly.
